There is no single known cause to this skin condition but family history may play a part as to why certain people are more likely to be affected by this skin condition. Vitiligo affects everyone differently, sometimes it can be gradual loss in skin pigmentation and in others it can be sudden and it can affect anyone at any age. The most commonly affected areas are the face, hands and feet, elbows and knees. Vitiligo isn't contagious and can't be passed on by touch or bodily fluids. People with vitiligo are no different to you or I. We may all be perfect, but we all have insecurities and imperfections which we don't like pointed out to us! So please, next time you see someone with vitiligo, try not to stare, just smile and say hello. Don't let their skin condition become their insecurity. |
